What to Expect in your Veg Box this Summer

What to Expect in your Veg Box this Summer

The farm is abuzz with positive vibes leading into summer! Lots of children are visiting for play sessions, our new flower garden is looking beautiful, the beehives are buzzing, lambs are jumping and chooks happily laying. Our summer crops are growing well, and our irrigation is set up for the hot, dry conditions predicted. We’re looking forward to a great season!

Flowering Veg: Cherry tomato, zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, capsicum, and cucumber will feature strongly in veg boxes this season. Our beans (green, yellow, and purple) are growing well, so we hope for some bumper harvests well into the summer. We are excited to have an experimental crop of ‘dagger’ chili in the ground. We will also continue to see broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and pumpkin early in the season.

Leafy Greens: We’ll take full advantage of the fast-growing lettuce season, so expect more beautiful oak and cos lettuces in your boxes. Kale, silverbeet, and rainbow chard are year-round crops at our farm. Bok choy and joi choi will make an appearance again this summer, along with fennel and celery.

Root Veg & Alliums: Carrots, beetroots and leek are thriving at the farm this year! We will continue to grow spring onion, kohlrabi, and radish too, as well as outsourcing potatoes and onions from organic growers.

Herbs: We will continue to grow herbs around the farm to supplement veg boxes. Basil, parsley, and dill will be regular features this season. We’ll also occasionally pack other herbs such as chives, rosemary, bay leaf and mint, along with less conventional herbs like water celery.

Fruit: Mainly sourced from other certified organic suppliers, bananas and apples will feature in mixed and fruit-only boxes, with citrus, stone fruit, melons, avocados, and mangos rotated in.
