Work Readiness Program

Work Readiness Program

What does it mean to have a job? A job can increase a person’s sense of self-worth and purpose. It can provide the chance to learn new skills or take the first steps towards a long-treasured dream. It can lead to new friendships and increase a sense of belonging and community. Of course, it’s also pays the rent and puts food on the table without having to rely on welfare.

Imagine not being able to get a job because you don’t speak English, or you grew up in a refugee camp and didn’t receive a complete education, or because your qualifications are not recognized. Perhaps you couldn’t finish school because of mental health issues, or you come from intergenerational unemployment. There are so many reasons why people face barriers to employment.

This is why the Green Connect Work Readiness Program is so important. With kindness, fairness, and understanding, we support people who might not otherwise get a chance at employment. We provide training in waste management and horticulture so participants can join our staff team. We talk about work rights, tax, superannuation, and what it’s like to work in Australia so, when people are ready, they can move into mainstream employment.

Every step of what we do is about highlighting people’s strengths, accentuating their positive attributes, and developing their work readiness. Our farm provides an ideal starting point and beautiful backdrop for the journey that so many have taken through our program; It is a safe, welcoming environment where people are given the opportunity to grow and flourish!

As a work-integrated social enterprise, creating jobs and employment pathways for former refugees, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and young people with barriers to employment is at the heart of what we do.

The training and paid work opportunities within our business arms, including Fair Food, Zero Waste, Op Shops, and Ethical Labour Hire, provide opportunities to develop skills and confidence in a safe, supportive environment. Green Connect is a first step on the way to mainstream employment and independence
